What is GST Registration?
Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a unified, destination-based indirect tax levied on the supply of goods and services in India. It replaced multiple cascading taxes levied by the central and state governments, creating a streamlined and transparent tax structure.
GST Registration is mandatory for businesses whose turnover exceeds the prescribed threshold limit or engage in inter-state supplies, e-commerce, or other specified categories. Once registered, a business is allotted a unique GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) that must be used in all tax-related transactions.
Who Needs GST Registration?
- Businesses with annual turnover exceeding ₹40 lakhs (₹20 lakhs for services in most states)
- Inter-state suppliers of goods and services
- E-commerce sellers and aggregators
- Businesses under reverse charge mechanism
- Input service distributors and agents
- Voluntary registrations for businesses seeking input tax credit (ITC)
Benefits of GST Registration
